Winthrop?
March Madness is here. I don't follow Notre Dame basketball nearly as closely as I do Irish football, but I have been interested to watch how well a promising BBall team rebounded from the loss of their starting point guard at the beginning of the season. Although they sputtered a bit at first, the team looked very strong at the end of the season and most "experts" projected them as a #4 seed in the tourney. Of course we got worked in the back room, and are actually a #6 seed in the "Midwest" region. Sounds okay, right? It is okay, except for two things. First, the "Midwest" has apparently been redefined in your atlas so that it now includes Spokane, Washington. Nice town, but it's not in the midwest. Which means we travel a long way from our midwestern home to play in the "Midwest" regional. The second issue is our draw. We play the Winthrop Eagles, who were undefeated in their conference this season and who have been picked as everyone's Cinderella team for this tournament.
Well, to that I say: Winthrop? Who the heck is Winthrop?
The 4th place team from the Big East will crush the Eagles like a bug! Then we will shock the world by defeating Oregon, before bowing out of the tourney against Wisconsin. That's my prediction. In my bracket I have a Wisconsin, Kansas, Georgetown, and Ohio State final four, with Kansas beating G-Town in the final.

You would hope so. I was being a little toungue-in-cheek there. But of course, in the eyes of many observers, we won't beat Winthrop. So beating Oregon would be a shock.

Good luck with the blog. Looks good so far. I wouldn't be too harsh about Winthrop just yet. They are a solid team and it should be interesting how the Irish stack up against them.
Anyways, I started my own ND basketball blog (ndbasketball.blogspot.com) in the beginning of the season. It's been a great experience. Hopefully yours will be the same.

OC Domer, Good luck with the blog. I'm not an alumn but a die hard fan. My Dad, Uncle and two cousins went there. I just moved to NYC from Chicago and will miss going to every home game. It's just 1 game a year for me.
I hope people have class when using your blog. People have gotten very harsh on NDNATION.

Thanks for the good wishes. The message boards can be rough, although I still visit often, looking for that golden nugget of information at the bottom of the pile. I'm starting out with open comments, but if people abuse it I'll go to moderated. I'm hopeful it won't be a problem.
Can we petition to have Pat Hayden removed from the telecast? I've listen to Steve Berlien (sp) and he's terrific! I don't know if I can take him for another season.
What's the best game you've been to?
I filled out my bracket this evening and I am convinced the Irish can win a few games in the big dance. I think ND will beat Winthrop. BamBam needs to pound this team inside and watch foul trouble. Falls and Carter need at least 15-20 pts a piece. Jackson needs to keep doing what he is doing. Winthrop will shoot right over the 2-3 zone so expect the Irish to be mixing up their defenses, Keys - Play Winthrop's guards tight, they can shoot the lights out if open. Try to pound them inside to open up Falls and Carter from ouside. Then bring on the Ducks in the second round.
I wouldn’t say the Irish are going to “crush” Winthrop… If they do manage to win, the Eagles will make them run. Winthrop has only been crushed once this season, the Texas A&M game, and that was over two months ago. I’d like to believe in all the hype surrounding the Eagles, but honestly can’t. What I can believe in is a great game on Friday between the two teams. I predict it will go down to the last minutes of the game and prove that both teams deserve to dance (because they were both seeded a little lower than they should have been).
ND or Gtech will move into the elite eight but Winthrop will be "too close for comfort"

oc domer is correct that ND advancement beyond the ducks would be a shock to many, but dont rule them out of the elite eight or more...bottom of that bracket is wide open for someone to make a run...
